Sustainable Mediterranean Construction
Traffic noise is one of the most significant health risks for the people living in densely populated urban centres. Symptoms vary from plain annoyance and stress to cardiovascular and respiratory disease, depression and low birth weight. Hence, measuring noise levels and studying its direct and indirect impacts is crucial for policy making, protective measures and compliance with the Environmental Noise Directive (END) 2002/49/EC. This study reviews existing literature, in order to draw a comprehensive picture of the traffic noise research landscape in Greece, based on published papers, in order to record the advances so far and to highlight the areas that need further investigating.
