Abstract

The contribution focuses on the theme of waste in abandoned heritage and questions their survival so that they do not become waste over time. Particularly interesting is the case of the fascist era confinement colonies, mostly located in southern Italy. Born as isolated settlements, they represent complex spatial microsystems shaped by the imposed relationship between man and artifact, building and workspace, design model and social stigma, public and private, and individual and collective dimensions. Concluded, introverted devices that opposed relationships with places, cities, and territories. Of particular interest is the Centro Agricolo of Pisticci in the province of Matera, the first plant built on the mainland between 1938 and 1939, taken as an emblematic case of the quest for an operational method that can re-give value to a heritage that bears witness to the culture of Mediterranean living otherwise destined for oblivion.
