Introduzione

The St. Mary’s abbey of Pattano Monastery, situated in Vallo della Lucania- municipality of Salerno in the South of Italy, which was established between the VIIIth century and by middle of the Xth century. Its building influences were endured until the XIVth century. The St. Mary’s abbey of Pattano Monastery has been conserved during a long time, its monumental complex, where one part is ruined and another part is restored, they were materialized in the area of Roman installations, nevertheless it was occupied by Greeks, who named this place “Elea”. There set up the most important preserved instance of Italo Greco Monastery in the South of Italy.
The purpose of this research is based on my doctoral studies about mediterranean frescos as an architectural unit , that promotes cultural valuation of a specific cultural landscape and its financial management, developed in partnership with Italian and Brazilian Universities.
The St. Mary’s Abbey building presents a rustic style, typically from the Lucania valley and substantial testimony for historic, archeological,architectural studies . It is a monumental complex building and a component part of the St. Mary’s Abbey of Pattano Monastery – system dating back to Xth until XIth centuries that came from Byzantine’s Empire -. The Italian Campanario, as well, dating back to Xth until XIth centuries and St. Filadelfo’s Church dating back to second half of the Xth century.
Inside those buildings, there are precious frescos painted during Xth and XIth centuries. This article focus on building typology characteristics studies from St. Filadelfo’s Church, to aim to put on evidence the conservation, preservation and restoration architectural methodology, because of understanding cultural landscapes process. Moreover the enhanced value as a cultural heritage is an issue to create a sustainable environment.
